Wine tasting expeditions – Utopia

Some of the best tasting rooms are nightmares to get to. Utopia Vineyard is past a long gravel road with more dust than gravel, past a section of non-road that is lined with green. Once you get to the tasting room (and don’t make the mistake I made of going to the winemakers house instead) it truly does feel like a utopia.

Their flight still consisted of a couple 2009 pinot noirs. The 09s were good, I can’t imagine what the 08s were like–and I’m eagerly awaiting the 10s and 11s. They have a 2012 rosé of pinot noir and 2012 DNA (the second label, made with sourced grapes) riesling. I was definitely a fan of the riesling, with the rich and fun textures. I got a bottle for summer grilling and maybe to pair with a nice cheese. It’s a nice, easy place to taste, with a few picnic tables outside if you want to sit and sip for a while.

Visit Utopia any day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at…
