Asian comfort food in Portland

I met a friend and former co-worker in Portland today for lunch, and she took me to a food cart on 10th and Alder called Nong’s Khao Man Gai. They serve a dish popularly known as Hainanese chicken, consisting of chicken and rice cooked with some chicken fat. Although that is the only dish they serve, they had the longest (and only) line among all the food carts around. It comes in a warm square shaped paper package that might be mistaken for a parcel if it didn’t smell so good. You unwrap it and eat it using the paper as a plate. It comes with a spicy ginger sauce and yummy soup, too!

Find out more at her website or visit her where I did, at SW 10th and Alder, Portland, OR 97205.
