Wine tasting expeditions – Monk’s Gate

Monk’s Gate Vineyard makes some pretty cool wine! One of the more impressive things about their tasting was how well their wines aged–they were tasting a 2007 that was nice and plum-y. It had a long finish, which I learned is called “syrup-y” in Starbucks language, and had lots of nice dark fruit. Their tasting room also has a pretty cool barn next door that looks like a piece of Oregon history.

The other two wines in the flight were a 2011 Pinot noir that had some sulfur that needed to blow off, and a 2010 Pinot noir that was a little softer and more balanced.

Visit them (and the cool barn) at 9500 NE Oak Springs Farm Rd. Carlton, Oregon 97111. They are a seasonal tasting room that is open from May to November, Friday to Sunday from noon to 5.
