Skippers Canyon was one of the richest gold deposits back during the gold rush. After two shepherds found the equivalent of $400,000 USD worth of gold, almost four thousand miners arrived in the canyon within two months.
Today, it’s the site of a local family business called Skippers Canyon Jet. After a scenic drive from Queenstown to Skippers Canyon, you get in a jet boat and see what it can do with as little as 12 inches of water. It was a beautiful day, making for a lovely ride up and down the mountain, and an exhilarating ride in the jet boat.
Tip: Bring sunglasses to keep the wind and water out of your eyes.
